Dragon Ball FighterZ Open Beta Details Revealed

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Bandai Namco has released some new details on the open beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ that will be running over the coming weekend. The new update includes information about the available characters, stages and modes that will be available, as well as how those with digital pre-orders will be able to get their early access to the beta.

A basic rundown of the available information can be found in a Tweet about the beta:

EARLY ACCESS for FighterZ who pre-ordered digitally on X1 or PS4. Starts Jan. 13 from midnight to 11:59pm PST!

Open Beta for ALL starts Jan.14 at midnight & ENDS at 11:59pm PST on the 15th!#DBFighterzBETA

As the Tweet suggests, there will be 11 characters available in the open beta: Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta, Krillin, Piccolo, Frieza, Android 18, Cell, all of whom were in previous demos and the closed beta, plus new characters Nappa, Adult Gohan, Kid Buu, and Beerus. It strikes a balance between new characters we’ve seen before and new ones, meaning those who’ve played the game before will have the chance to try out some different teams.

In addition to the playable roster, we heard about some of the modes that will be available. It will have online World Matches, similar to the closed beta, as well as the Battle Tutorial, which gives players a rundown on the game’s mechanics, although according to Bandai Namco’s replies to people’s questions it will not be a full training mode. There will also be rankings, replays, avatar customization for the lobby, a limited set of interaction stamps, and two dramatic scenes that can play out in combat. Similar to the closed beta, there will be no offline versus play in the open beta.

The open beta will be running from 12:00 am PST on January 14 until 11:59 pm on January 15 on PS4 and Xbox One. Those with digital pre-orders on those platforms will get early access to the beta starting at 12:00 am PST on January 13. The early access can be activated by searching for the Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta early access client in the PSN store after it becomes live on the 13th.

The open beta will be a good chance for those still on the fence to try out Dragon Ball FighterZ before it finally releases on January 26. Unfortunately PC players are somewhat left out in the cold, since there’s no beta for the Steam version of the game, but if you’re on console then it’s as good a time as any to check out the game.

So from the closed beta they replaced Teen Gohan with the Adult version, Fat Buu with Kid Buu, Android 16 with Nappa and Trunks with that cancer Beerus.

Given how close this is to release there is no reason not to have the full roster other than this being a glorified limited demo to suck people in.
